Technorati
Technorati is a service that monitors many of the blogs published on the Web to find postings that will be of interest to members. If you are a blogger, Technorati is a valuable tool for following along with the conversation around your blog and the topics you cover, because it will alert you to new links to postings on your site.
As a reader, Technorati’s home page is a convenient view to what is popular on the Web at the moment–the articles on the page change throughout the day based on how many blogs are publishing on a particular topic. A set of tabs at the top of the page let you drill into specific areas, such as business, entertainment, politics, sports and technology, providing you a sort of blog news section on each.
Bloggers can claim their postings by including a snippet of code from Technorati in the template of their home page. This lets Technorati organize incoming links (that is, links made by other bloggers and sites that point to your blog) and alert you to who is discussing what you’ve written. An example of a Technorati details page, which shows links to a blog posting, is at the left. This kind of tracking is essential to building up your blog’s popularity and keeping engaged with others who may point to your writing again and again.
In addition to this search-like capability, Technorati includes social features, such as an “authority” rating and member favorites that help identify who is more linked to and trusted (or popular) in a conversation, as well as the ability to share articldes via email or in large catalog of social sites, including Facebook, Google Bookmarks and NewsVine, among others.
