Orkut
Orkut, Google’s long-standing entrant in the social networking race, is still described by the company as a “beta,” or test version. The site has become particularly popular among Brazilians, and much of the meaningful social activity on the site is in Portuguese, while English-language groups are not very active and clogged with spam messages advertising money-making schemes. Indian, Eastern European, Turkish and Asian language groups are much more active.
Orkut provides convenient photo- and video-sharing, testimonials by friends, extensive discussion forums and group-management features. However, it doesn’t deliver the blogging, email and news integration that other sites and, notably, Google offers through other social sites. The site has not changed considerably since 2004, but remains an active destination for an international community.

allthough the over all user experience of orkut remains the same it has neverthless implemented openstandards recently ,where family and friends using various social networking sites can seamlessly share their photos and other stuff…many apps which i see running in face book are also available in orkut. this kind of an open approach is much needed to provide more inter operability and having a smooth transition from one network to the other
although the user experience remains the same since its inception orkut had neverthelss incorporated openstandards for providing more seamless interoperabilty among family and friends who share their photos and other things frequently…
orkut does provide news features it has to be enabled by the owner of a community during its inception or at a later stage when he/she wishes..although blogging is not an integral part of orkut we can still however notice the neat integration of various online services provided by google such as
youtube
blogger.com
picassa webalbums
orkut now provides a wide variety of themes and granualar privacy controls similar to that of facebook..in my view its a very good place to connect to the social networking cloud
