Koornk
Koornk takes more personalized approach to micro-blogging, but still looks an awful lot like Twitter. The site and users’ activity streams are organized by personal information, such as interests and geographic location, to make connections between new members.
The site aims to be global, but is still at such an early stage that it is difficult to determine if it will be successful. For example, the most popular interest listed on Koornk, “internet,” returns only about 140 members who list that topic.
That said, joining a network like Koornk early is an oppotunity to have a lot more influence than on other sites where some people already have thousands of followers. If the Koornk team really focuses on helping individual members increase their personal network size and, more importantly, quality, the network could catch on and spread its reach.
Since the service has its own application programming interface, or “API,” that lets software be built by many third parties to use the micro-blogging and search features of Koornk, the underlying technology could become an important hub in the social networking world. Time will tell.
