FileRide

FileRide is a “social desktop,” an application that runs on your computer that lets members share whatever file they drag into the FileRide application window. The service promises to “promote democracy through universal access to media related forums,” but it requires an invitation to use the application, which runs on Windows Vista and XP, at the time of this writing.

Files can be shared publicly or in private, according to the company. When sharing, users are reportedly connected to people who share their interests. And the FileRide is currently integrated with Twitter, so that files can be shared through micro-blog postings.
